Well done OLL

BIG congratulations to team OLL for being awarded "Best Games Podcast" at the 2009 GMAs (HERE). This finally means the games industry equivalent of Scorsese have the award they justly deserve. I know how much work the team and some of the more regular contributors have put into the show (as well as the pre-show "planning" meetings) over the years so well done all.

To celebrate the doyouinverts may end their autumn vacation and actually put a couple of tracks out before the end of the month. But don't count on it!

Old Track: "The Ballad Of Ann Scantlebury"

Old Track: "The Ballad Of Ann Scantlebury"
From the collection: "doyouinverts B-sides"
Download: HERE
Lyrics and music: the doyouinverts

the doyouinverts second ever song "The Ballad Of Ann Scantlebury" aired to a largely positive reception early during Season 4 of One Life Left (not least from Ann, who seemed quite touched).

This acoustic version, featuring slightly re-written lyrics, is a WEB ONLY EX....EX...CLUSIVE...USIVE....USIVE.... and will never be aired on OLL. This is not, I stress, because it's especially terrible (well... any more than usual) but simply a special treat for those few, brave, hardy fools who visit the doyouinverts website from time to time. If I wasn't an emotionally repressed only child who dislikes close bodily contact with other human beings I'd hug each and every one of you brave web visitors. But seeing as I am an emotionally repressed only child who dislikes close bodily contact with other human beings you'll just have to make do with a vaguely amusing song about videogames.

Sorry.

Lyrics, as ever are HERE.

New Track: "Coming Out"

New Track: "Coming Out"
From the new EP: "One Year Launch Window"

Played on One Life Left Season 5 - Episode 103
Lyrics and music: the doyouinverts
Visual consultant: EvilNinjaPhil

Even though the room I usually record in has now been rendered off-limits by an ant invasion (think Phase IV crossed with Aliens) and I'm being hounded by the French tax authorities who want to put me in jail, I've still managed to write a new, vaguely amusing track about videogames. This is because I care about you, the listener.

So, this week the doyouinverts sing about every hardcore game playing parent's nightmare.

With the unchecked spread of the Wii and DS in society, as a parent I've always made sure that my kids know how to use a modern 2 sticked analogue gamepad with triggers, and I recommend you do the same.

Lyrics HERE if you want to sing-a-long.

Incidentally, can I also insist that you click on the EvilNinjaPhil video for Random Encounter HERE. We have a target of 4000 hits by Christmas. If we fail to reach this target I am going to mail a copy of Kane and Lynch to a random child in the UK to reach them for Christmas Day.

So, if you don't want a child's Christmas to be ruined, I suggest you click like a woodpecker with a nervous tic.

Random Encounter - The EvilNinjaPhil Video

Like a man with buck teeth and a limp who always seems to end up with a supermodel girlfriend, yet again EvilNinjaPhil (supermodel) comes to the rescue of the doyouinverts (limp) with his finest work to date.

Behold this splendid video for Random Encounter (the doyouinverts lovesong with a JRPG flavour). This is, quite simply, very lovely indeed and a big thanks to EvilNinjaPhil for putting it together. If you like EvilNinjaPhil's video work and would like to pay him vast sums of money for doing something similar for your site (or just want to shower him with internet love) he can be found at his own blog here, or on Twitter here.

The video (watch on Youtube or maximise for optimal experience)

We're back (yay!), and easing ourselves into the doyouinverts hit routine with a traditional little guitar and piano number titled "Goodbye Gordon".

This one is about the most dysfunctional relationship in PC gaming....

New Track: "Fingers Turned Into Fists"

New Track: "Fingers Turned Into Fists"

Played on One Life Left Season 4 - Episode 96
Co-written by Mathew Kumar (lyrics/vocals) and the doyouinverts (music)

Mathew, who has appeared on One Life Left this season with the excellent "Best Worst Game You've Never Played" feature joins forces with the doyouinverts for this dark look at the diminishing role video game arcades now play in our lives. Ste Curran called this "the best thing the doyouinverts have ever done" before playing it on OLL, and he's right.

Many thanks to Mathew for the lyrics, and perhaps at some future date we may collaborate again....
